The health and spa town Bad Saulgau is situated in the heart of Upper Swabia, between Ulm and Lake Constance. The city which has 18,000 inhabitants lies surrounded by softly rolling hills and vast plains on the Upper Swabian Baroque Route.
Upper Swabia covers the south-east of Baden Württemberg, as well as a small part of south-west Bavaria between the Danube river, Lake Constance, the Allgäu and Iller valley. In the year 1239 Bad Saulgau received its city rights and belonged to Austria for 600 years. Around 1299 Habsburg obtained control and characterized the town to a large extent. So until today visitors can find the old town wall as well as lovingly restored Aleman timbered houses. More than 200 years ago, the sisters of the local Franciscan Monastery found a well of sulfurous water and invited visitors along for courses of treatments. Over the years the tranquil place turned into a state-approved health spa town and received the rating „Bad“ meaning „spa-town“ in 2000.
The regular tours lead the visitor through the historical city centre and have the motto „Bad Saulgau mirroring history“. Our visitors learn interesting facts about the vivid Bad Saulgau history – and also about its present.
Visitors can take part in all these events upon presentation of the Bad Saulgau visitors' card. They will either be complementary or reduced. You will receive the vistors' card at reception in the Kleber Post. It will then have to be stamped in the tourist information center (situated in the "Stadtforum" Bad Saulgau) in order to become valid.
